 International Internship Resources: This page is meant to provide resources and guidance for all SOPH or other UAB students looking for apply for an international internship experience.  
 
Peace Corps Master’s International Program: The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Public Health offers a Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) degree in cooperation with the Peace Corps Master’s International Program. UAB establishes and monitors academic requirements, and the Peace Corps places MI students overseas as Volunteers.

UAB Bertha and Joseph Smolian International House: The Smolian International House at UAB offers a variety of services and activities for international students and scholars.    
 
 
UAB Going Global: UAB resource that provides country specific guides including information on interviewing, cultural advice, Resume/CV guidelines, work permits/visas, job search resources, top companies, etc. Please note that you have to log-in through DragonTrail to access the site. 
 
 
UAB English Language and Culture Institute: The English Language and Culture Institute.    
 
 
UAB Office of International Sponsored Programs: In 2006, UAB created the Office of Sponsored International Programs, to provide faculty and students with assistance and guidance in conducting research in international settings.    
 
 
UAB Study Away Programs: UAB's Study Abroad program has over 50 programs in 27 international locations in the areas of Language, Arts, Public Health, Nursing, Business, Social science, Engineering and Natural Science.
 
 
UAB Student Volunteers in Optometric Service to Humanity: UAB SVOSH volunteers provide free, comprehensive eye care, and eyeglasses to underserved populations, both domestic and international.

  

 
UAB Traveler's Clinic: largest Travel/Tropical medicine clinic in Alabama. The clinic is located in UAB Kirklin Clinic. UAB is widely recognized as a leader in tropical medicine and international health.
 
 
Universities Allied for Essential Medicines: Many important medicines and public health technologies are developed in academic laboratories. Their accessibility in poor nations is profoundly affected by the research, patenting and licensing decisions made by universities.  Universities Allied for Essential Medicines (UAEM) is a national organization founded on the idea that universities have an opportunity and a responsibility to improve global access to public health goods.  UAEM’s student-run UAB chapter is working locally to improve UAB’s technology transfer practice and raise awareness on the burden of disease in the developing world.
 
 
Global Health Student Organizations: The UAB campus provides an opportunity for student in various schools, departments, and academic programs to become involved in global health/global outreach student interest groups.    
 
 
The School of Engineering Engineers without Borders: The purpose of EWB is to partner with disadvantaged communities to improve their quality of life through implementation of environmentally and economically sustainable engineering projects, while developing internationally responsible engineering students.   
 
 
The School of Public Health Global Health Initiative: In 2005, following a student-run roundtable discussion, the Global Health Initiative (GHI) was launched to give SOPH students a forum to become involved in issues of Global Health and Global Health education. The GHI is a way for SOPH students to take Global Health education out of the classroom, to discuss their experiences, to network with one another, and to work together on issues of mutual interest.    
 
 
The School of Medicine Global Health Interest Group: The Global Health Interest Group or GHIG, is a student-run organization that focuses on developing opportunities for medical students that expand their views about medicine and how it is practiced around the world.    
 
 
The School of Nursing International Programs: Strategies to promote student awareness of global and international health issues include study-abroad programs, short-term immersion experiences in international settings, and incorporation of global health perspectives and content throughout the nursing curriculum. Teaching and scholarship programs of faculty are strengthened by partnerships with international colleagues, and such partnerships also bring opportunities for faculty service to address global health needs.   
 
The UAB Medical Spanish Club: The UAB Medical Spanish Club was established by UAB Department of Foreign Languages graduates who are interested in maintaining their fluency and encouraging other future health professionals to learn Spanish. The Medical Spanish Group is a student-led group that desires to get medical students excited about Spanish and interested in learning more. They have weekly classes of all levels taught by fellow students where we focus on learning the practical aspects of medical Spanish so that students will feel more comfortable to encounter Spanish-speaking patients on the wards.
 
Global and Community Leadership Honors Program:The Global and Community Leadership (GCL) Honors Program is for students searching for a deeper understanding of global and community issues and a way to relate those issues to their own values and goals.  Faculty mentoring, specialized courses, service-learning, and international and community learning experiences encourage students to take leadership roles in campus and community organizations.
