2012 Case Competition
Today's global health challenges require the engagement and commitment of people and organizations specializing in numerous fields and disciplines. The perspectives and recommendations from the worlds of business, medicine, public health, nursing, theology, law, the liberal arts, and science are essential to improving health and health care around the world. It is for this reason that UAB is calling for students from multiple disciplines to address a global health challenge in a team setting. The winning team will receive $1,500 and the opportunity to compete in the national competition at Emory University in March 2012. The second place team will receive $500.
What is a case competition anyway?
Common across U.S. business schools, a case competition features teams of four to six students working through a real-life case scenario with the goal of providing helpful strategic recommendations to move the case subject forward efficiently and effectively. The competition is centered on team presentations to judges, who then score student recommendations and award prizes.
The UAB case competition is different in that students are given a case that features a real life global health problem. It will require an interdisciplinary approach to formulate recommendations regarding the case that may involve issues such as health care policy, public health implementation and planning, business partnership & investment, medical research, logistics management, cultural understanding, and other components.
Who can participate?
Students (graduate and undergraduate) from across UAB are encouraged to participate. Teams will be comprised of four to six students from three or more UAB schools. Students can sign up as individuals or in a team. For team registration, you must have a complete team already with 3 UAB schools represented and at least 4 students on the team. Students who register as individuals will be grouped together to form interdisciplinary teams.
